The last conference opponent for the Bearcats was Cedarville in Bearcat Stadium last November. The next conference opponent for the Bearcats is Cedarville in Bearcat Stadium this Friday.
Exactly how Cedarville earned the distinction came through a rework of Conference 3A-1 schedules during a coaches’ meeting after conference assignments were made by the Arkansas Activities Association.
Though Cedarville is making the trip to South Logan County for the second straight season, the reconfiguration of the league schedule did not result in a major shakeup, at least for the Bearcats. The playing order is largely off by a week but there is a second straight trip to Mansfield awaiting.

TODAY IN BEARCAT FOOTBALL HISTORY: The Bearcats are 8-3-1 in games documented to have been played on September 27 with wins on the last four September 27 playing dates. On September 27, 1963 Donnie Ward scored four touchdowns, one of them on a 76-yard kickoff return, and the Bearcats beat Ozark 33-12. Against Mansfield 22 years ago to the day, Josh Holloway had 163 rushing yards, with 80 coming on one play, and scored three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion in a 35-0 win. On the last September 27 playing date, which was 2019, the Bearcats had 436 offensive yards, recorded five sacks, and beat Paris 49-12.
NOTES: Cedarville is making its second trip to South Logan County this season. The Pirates won 14-0 in Magazine on August 29. Cedarville is the second of three Pirates on the schedule (Poteau, OK and Greenland). The Bearcats have won 15 straight. Cedarville was also open last week. Cedarville is one of four schools to have faced the Bearcats at least six times and gone winless.
THE 3A-1: Conference 3A-1 was a collective 11-13 in nonconference play with only the Bearcats running the table and only West Fork dropping all three games. Last Friday West Fork lost 8-6 to Huntsville on a night when the league was 3-1 with the wins all dominant as Greenland beat Green Forest 42-18, Hackett stomping Mountainburg 47-0, and Charleston drumming Heavener, OK 55-0. For both Greenland and Hackett it was a second win and Charleston got its first of the season.
In addition to Cedarville in Booneville, this week’s league schedule finds Lavaca at Greenland, Charleston at West Fork, and Hackett at Mansfield.
THEME: The pep rally theme is Homecoming.
