In a swiftly moving game the Seventh Grade Bearcats topped Cedarville 14-6 Thursday evening.
Game time was set for 5:30 and teams were shaking hands at 6:11.
After a simulated punt exchange to start the game the Bearcats (4-1, 2-0 Conference 3A-1) ended Cedarville’s second possession with a David Bik fumble recovery.
Bik then ran for 7 yards to the Pirate 39-yard line. A play later Hank Loftin looked to hand the ball off but there was nobody to do so to, so he took off and turned the busted play into a touchdown.
Loftin finished with 65 yards on five carries.
Jordan Day ran for a 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 and the first quarter was over.
A 70-yard scoring run on the next play got Cedarville within 8-6 but Aiden Akers stuffed a 2-point try. Akers would later contribute on offense.
The Bearcats kept the ball the rest of the half, including a carry by Aikers, the lineman turned running back, but a fumble into the end zone on the last play of the half kept it a two point game.
The Bearcats kept the ball the entire third quarter, running 11 plays and scoring on a 3-yard run by Akers (55) that made it 14-6. A try for two failed.
Cedarville looked to have answered with a pass play but Jackson Harris had been the victim of a hold and the play came back.
Four plays later Cain Catlett recovered a Pirate fumble and the Bearcats ran a single play to end it.
The Bearcats will next play at Bearcat Stadium against Hackett. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
