The game started early. It ended early as well. Planned as a 6:30 kickoff, rather than the typical 7 p.m., the game actually began just before 6:40.

By halftime Cooper Smithson (shown) had run for two touchdown; Hayden Daniel ran for one and caught a pass from Drake Brackney for another; and Brackney added a rushing touchdown of his own.

The junior high Bearcats (5-0, 2-0 Conference 3A-1) coasted to a 44-6 win on Glen Wisely field in Cedarville.

Smithson went 62 yards for a touchdown the first time the Bearcats snapped the ball and Callen Montalvo’s first of three straight 2-point conversions made it 8-0.

Montalvo ran 64 yards the second Bearcat play, but was tracked down from behind and Daniel scored from the 16 for a 16-0 lead after Montalvo’s conversion run.

Montalvo had 86 yards on his two carries and the touchdown was Daniel’s only carry.

Smithson and Braxton Hubble made a fourth down stop to give the Bearcats the ball at midfield to start the second quarter.

It took four plays to score. Brackney connected with Edwin Garcia for 16 and would score the touchdown himself from the 22 and it was 24-0.

Trevor Swaim sniffed out a fake punt to give the Bearcats a short field and three plays later Smithson scored from the 1 for a 30-0 lead. Smithson ran for 80 yards on five carries.

After the kickoff the Pirates were in a second-and-1 situation after a 9-yard play on which Daniel forced a fumble but the Pirates saved the possession.

Abraham Dominguez and Dalton Schmidt make a stop behind the line of scrimmage on second down, there was a third down incomplete pass, and Daniel had another tackle for loss to get the ball back to the offense.

Brackney then connected with Daniel for 38 yards and a touchdown to make it 36-0 at the half.

Cedarville scored on the final offensive play of the third quarter on a 1-yard run, but Ascher Penny and Ashton Lyle stopped a try for two.

Wyatt Danekas converted a fourth down early in the final quarter and Kenan Matheson went 52 yards for a touchdown to answer the Pirate score. Swaim added the conversion run for the eventual 44-6 final.

The Bearcats return to Bearcat Stadium next week to face Hackett. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
