The Seventh Grade Bearcat offense scored a touchdown the first time they had the football Thursday night and their defense made it stand up for a 6-0 win over previously unbeaten Hackett.
The touchdown came on a 1-yard carry by Colt Whitehouse (shown), who ran 16 times for 59 yards in the game but a 2-point conversion try failed to keep it 6-0.
The drive included first down runs by Hank Loftin and a 29-yard run by Jordan Day to get to the 1.
Before the touchdown Cain Catlett and Tuff Todd made a third down negative yardage stop to force a simulated punt, and following the score the defense recorded three takeaways.
Hackett did mount a second quarter threat that saw the Hornets reach the Bearcat 21-yard line but Todd and David Bik combined to make a tackle for a 4-yard loss and Catlett intercepted a pass to end the drive.
The Bearcats (5-1, 3-0 Conference 3A-1) used all but the three seconds of the remaining 2:49 of the half to reach the Hornet 11-yard line but suffered an interception as well.
Bik caused and recovered a fumble with 2:50 to play in the third quarter but the Bearcats would be forced to punt to start the final quarter.
Aiden Akers and Whitehouse both had a tackle for a loss to help force Hackett to give up the ball but the Bearcats would have to give it back one more time with 3:38 to play.
The Hornets would move from their 20 to the Bearcat 38 with their final drive where Whitehouse forced and recovered a fumble with 1:19 to play.
Whitehouse then converted a third-and-2 with a 5-yard run to allow the Bearcats to get into victory formation.
The Bearcats will be at home again next week taking on Greenland. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
