The Booneville Junior High Bearcats finished their season, perhaps fittingly, on Halloween because they were a nightmare on any street on which opponents encountered them.
The Bearcats, who finished a perfect 10-0, scored 410 points on the season, obviously an average of 41 per game.
There were 56 total touchdowns, four of which were by the defense, which also had a safety, and there were 36 2-point conversions accounting for the point total.
They got the season started on August 29 with a 62 point effort at Prairie Grove in a wild game that saw 104 total points.
A week later the Bearcats were held to a season low 22 but beat Ozark 22-20.
The final nonconference game saw 38 on the board against Paris which was the last time there weren’t at least 40 scored until the finale in Charleston which was a modest 34. There was also a 50 point game against Hackett.
On the other side of the ball the defense allowed just 114 all season, with 42 coming in the first game and 68 of them in nonconference play, leaving only 44 for the seven conference opponents.
Obviously the individual numbers were significant as well. Six players scored at least four touchdowns.
With four rushing scores in the finale Callen Montalvo had the most rushing scores with 15 and he added a team best 16th on the lateral he took form Drake Brackney for a touchdown after an interception on Thursday.
Montalvo was also the 2-point conversion leader with 14 for a point total of 124.
Hayden Daniel scored 14 total touchdowns with 10 on the ground, two receiving, and two on punt returns. Daniel also ran for 10 2-point conversions to total 104 points.
Sadler Miller scored on both offense and defense with seven rushing touchdowns and an interception return for a touchdown and he scored six times after touchdowns for 60 total points.
Also scoring four touchdowns were Brackney, Cooper Smithson, and Ayden Rhinehart the with later also having a pair of 2-point scores for 28 points.
It was Daniel winning the rushing title with 737 yards on 44 carries to Montalvo’s 735 on 42. Sadler Miller got a team high 55 carries that went for 532 yards.
Smithson ran for 288 yards, Brackney had 271, and Rhinehart 193.
Brackney completed 11 passes for 258 yards with three touchdowns.
Defensively the sack leaders were Rhinehart and Braxton Hubble with three each, and it was Hubble with the safety.
The overall tackle leader was Laythen Shaffer with 44, one of which was a sack. Hubble had the most solo tackles with 30 and totaled 41. Daniel made 36 tackles, Rhinehart totaled 34 stops, and Schmidt 29, along with a fumble return touchdown.
There were nine total interceptions with Brackney accounting for three, and Edwin Garcia and Miller two each with Garcia and Miller both returning one for a touchdown.
