The inaugural Lady Bearcat Alumni Game pitted mothers against daughters, mothers and daughters on the same team, and former teammates on opposite benches. In the end youth won the day, 58-45.
One of the youngest on the floor, sophomore Haylee Taylor hit seven 3s and scored 25 points against the team featuring her mother, Ashley Taylor, to lead the Lady Bearcats.
The varsity Lady Bearcats started the second of what became a game of hockey style periods with a 13-0 run to take control of a game against the Alumni.
Tempi Terry started the run, which actually gave the Lady Bearcats a lead on what was the fifth lead change of the game.
Shown with Amy Daniel defending her shot, Baylee Parnell had a pair of baskets to push the lead to five and Haylee Taylor sandwiched a couple of 3s around an Emma Ferguson basket and quickly it was 26-14.
Yolanda Vasquez finally got the Alumni on the board again but Makinley Ensey scored on either side of another Emma Ferguson basket – on an assist from sister Anna Ferguson.
With Emma, a senior, and Anna, a junior, the siblings could be opponents this time next year.
Paula Brackeny started what became a 10-0 run to end the second period. The run included five points from Karmen Kent and a 3 from Brackeny’s daughter, Leigh Swint.
The Brackney-Swint mother-daughter duo totaled 12 with Swint accounting for seven.
Kent led the Alumni’s 17-deep roster with 9 points. Nine of the alumni players logged points.
The late run inspired a third period, which proved to be an inside clinic from Terry, and a shooting clinic by Taylor.
Terry, who scored 11, also hit a 3 and scored the Lady Bearcats first seven points of the period and Haylee Taylor hit four 3s over a span of three minutes.
Harley Fitzjurls hit another 3 to make it a game high lead of 58-39.
Taylor’s 3s all came on assist from Angie Brown, who had nine of them in the game. The Fitzjurls 3 gave the Lady Bearcats six 3s in the period and 11 in the game.
The Alumni scored the final six points, all by 2024 graduate Lexi Franklin, giving her eight and that mother-daughter duo 10 in the game.
A third Franklin was in the game but not in uniform sophomore Raelynn Franklin did not play due to an injury.
