Junior High Bearcats Win Easily Twice; Junior Lady Bearcats Split Games

The Junior High Bearcats have opened the season with a pair of lopsided wins at home.

The Bearcats rolled to a 44-19 win in their season opener Monday against Dover.

The Bearcats opened the season on a 9-0 run and led 15-2 by the end of the first quarter and 29-7 at the half.

By the time it ended the Bearcats had 10 different players score – the roster includes 22 players – though none would reach double figures.

Callen Montalvo (shown) and Drake Brackney both scored 9, Sadler Miller had 6 and Aayden Rhinehart 5.

On Tuesday it was 16-0 after one quarter and the Bearcats coasted to a 45-6 win.

There would be 13 different players score Tuesday with Hayden Daniel’s 8 leading the way. Brackeny also scored 5 points.

The Junior High Lady Bearcats have split their first two games of the 2024-2025 season.

The Lady Bearcats led by 24 through three quarters against Western Yell County before settling for a 28-10 win, after suffering a loss to Dover to start the season Monday.

On Tuesday it was a 12-0 after Emma Fox’s fourth basket of the first quarter and 17-1 after back-to-back baskets by Alycin Pearcy.

Fox scored again to start the second half and had another third quarter basket that made it a 20-point lead, completing her 12 point effort.

Torie Nobles was the second leading scorer with 5 points.

On Monday Dover led by more than 20 before a second quarter surge led by Chloe Walker made it a 26-10 game.

Walker would lead the way with 7 points, all of which came before halftime of the 47-17 loss. Evelyn Rogers and Pearcy both scored 4.

The junior high teams will play again at Bearcat Gymnasium on Thursday against Atkins.

7th Grade Bearcats

It was 15-3 through one quarter and Dover did not score for the next three quarters during a 40-3 Bearcat win on Monday.

Meanwhile three Bearcats were scoring in double digits with Breckyn Denton scoring 14, Colt Whitehouse 11, and Aiden Akers 10.

The trio combined for six 3-pointers with Denton responsible for four of them.

7th Lady Bearcats 13
In the most competitive game Monday night, the Seventh Grade Lady Bearcats rallied from nine down to get within 15-13 in the final minutes in the opening game of the basketball program’s season.

Sophie Shaffer scored 6 second half points to fuel the comeback and Clara Diffee also scored her second basket of the day during the second half.

The 7th Grade Lady Bearcats and Bearcats will next play at Mena on November 21.
