Junior Lady Bearcats Run Away From Atkins

A Chloe Walker basket resulted in the fourth lead of the first quarter and started a 10-0 run that saw the Booneville Junior High Lady Bearcats start to pull away on the way to a 39-22 win over Atkins Thursday night.

Kaity Green added a basket before the opening quarter ended to make it 8-5. After Atkins managed a free throw to interrupt the run, the Lady Bearcats ran off 7 more straight points.

Green was responsible for 4 of the points and would finish the night with 9 as the Lady Bearcats wrapped up a 2-1 opening week of the season.

Already up 21-7 to start the second half the Lady Bearcats again went on another run, this one of 11-0 with five players participating in the scoring, starting with Emma Fox and Alycin Pearcy and ending with Lakyn Freeman.

The fourth quarter it was Evelyn Rogers (shown) keeping the Lady Red Devils at bay. The eight graders scored six points and would finish with a game high 10 for the night.

Atkins 43 Junior High Bearcats 31

Atkins jumped to a 9-1 lead a minute into the second quarter and the Junior High Bearcats got no closer than three the rest of the way in a loss to drop to 2-1.

Atkins led by 11 in the second quarter until a couple of Sadler Miller free throws and a 3 by Hayden Daniel cut it to 16-10 at the half.

Twelve seconds into the third quarter a 3 by Drake Brackney started the second half scoring and made it 16-13.

It was 21-17 after a basket by Miller, who led the Bearcats with 10 points, but Atkins scored the next 8 points and led by 10 going to the final quarter.

The deficit grew to as many as 15 but the Bearcats would trim it to 8 with 1:35 to play.

Both teams are back in action on Monday at Ozark.
