Chloe Walker was dominant inside, especially early on, but the Booneville Junior High Lady Bearcats would have a disappointing night in Ozark.
Walker (shown) scored 12 points, blocked seven shots, and had six rebounds in the 39-26 loss.
She scored six first quarter points while the Lady Bearcats (2-2)opened an 8-4 lead. Walker also started the second quarter scoring with a basket on Lexy Peacy’s third assist of the half and it was 10-9.
Walker also ended a scoring drought that was 4:45 long to get the Lady Bearcats within 15-12.
Ozark got a 3 before the break and stretched the lead to 12 before the third quarter ended.
A Walker free throw and a basket by Pearcy, who finished with 6 points, got it back to a single digit with 5:23 to go but that would be as close as it would get.
Ozark 49 Bearcats 28
The Bearcats (2-2) were balanced and effective early on, tailing just 11-9 with Cooper Smithson, Callen Montlavo, Drake Brackeny, and Sadler Miller all scoring baskets.
Unfortunately the Bearcats would not score from the field again until the final quarter when Chase Posey drew an and-one opportunity.
Miller would lead the Bearcats with 9 points and Montalvo added 5.
The junior high teams will next play as part of a four game night that includes seventh grade teams in Mena on Thursday with the seventh grade girls beginning at 4:30.
