Lady Bearcat senior Angie Brown has been golden. Four days after setting a school record for assists, she took over a game against Mena.

Brown scored 20 points to lead the Lady Bearcats to a 49-40 win to move to 3-1.

After two tie scores early in the third quarter it was a drive to the basket and a bucket by Brown for a 27-25 lead. That started an 8-0 run, which she also capped with a conventional three-point play and it was 33-25.

Brown started the fourth quarter scoring with a basket that gave the Lady Bearcats their largest lead of the night at 40-30.

Mena crept within 40-37, then 42-40 – Haylee Taylor and Tempi Terry had singe free throws during Mena’s 10-2 run. It was Brown who hit a pair of free throws to make it 44-40.

With Mena needing a clock stoppage was also Brown who the black and red clad Lady Bearcats had to foul. Brown again hit two and it was a three possession game at 47-40 with 58.6 seconds to play.

After another miss by Mena – the visiting Lady Bearcats were scoreless the final 2:13 – Brown drove inside for a shot clock beating basket with :08 to play to provide and even wider, and final victory margin.

In addition to her career high in scoring Brown also had five rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Brown’s first basket of the night had given the Lady Bearcats a 4-3 lead starting a series of four lead changes, after the fourth of which saw Mena build a 14-9 lead.

Haylee Taylor took care of that with consecutive 3s on Brown’s two assists and it was 15-14 with 6:19 to play in the half.

Taylor was one of three Lady Bearcats in double figures with 12.

With Mena up 18-15 Brown scored twice to change the lead for the seventh time in the half and it was 19-18.

The game would be tied again at 19 and 21 before Tempi Terry gave the Lady Bearcats a narrow 23-21 lead at the intermission.

That gave Terry a team best 8 first half points and she would finish with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Bearcats will hit the road for the second time this season Monday to take on Waldron. A JV senior boys game will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the girls game.

The Lady Bearcats will then be off the rest of Thanksgiving week.
