The Booneville Lady Bearcats have to feel like one got away in Waldron Monday night.
The Lady Bearcats (3-2) led 42-30 with 1:01 to play in the third quarter and were in front 48-38 with 4:55 remaining before falling 56-51.
After Baylee Parnell scored for the third time in the fourth quarter with 4:55 to go it was 48-38 but turnovers allowed Waldron to creep within 48-46 in short order.
Parnell led the Lady Bearcats with 16 points and she had nine rebounds.
A free throw by Tempi Terry made it 49-46 with 3:15 to play but Terry, who as saddled with foul problems throughout the night, picked up her fifth on a loose ball scramble with 2:03 to go and the Lady Bearcats leading just 49-48.
Waldron, who had a total of six fouls in the game, owned the inside after that scoring twice within 37 seconds to take a 52-49 lead.
A basket by Angie Brown cut it to 52-51 but a rebound putback, after the ball was knocked free, made it 54-51 and a pair of free throws with 25 seconds to go would set the final.
The Lady Bearcats had scored the first five points of the night and tied it on a Terry basket after Waldron scored the next seven. Another Terry basket made it 9-7 but she would not score again until the fourth quarter free throw.
After four first quarter ties the Lady Bearcats went in front on a basket by Emma Ferguson (shown).
Playing while Terry and Parnell both had two first quarter fouls, Ferguson would open the second quarter with a 3 and close it with a basket that capped a 6-0 run to end the half with the Lady Bearcats up 27-21.
It was a one point Lady Bearcat lead twice early in the second half before four points from Parnell and a pair of 3s from Haylee Taylor ran it to nine and a basket and free throw by Brown made it 42-30 with 1:01 remaining in the quarter.
Taylor hit four 3s and finished with 12 points in the game and Brown finished with 11 points and seven assists.
The Lady Bearcats will next play Monday in the Bearcat Classic, taking on Lamar at approximately 7 p.m.
