Bearcats Get Reacquainted With Subiaco

The Booneville Bearcats and Subiaco Trojans got reacquainted Friday night at Bearcat Gymnasium.

Subiaco, which has been a Class 4A participant for several cycles dropped to Class 3A and into the 3A-4 with the Bearcats and eight other schools this season.

On Friday the Trojans took a 69-46 decision in the nightcap of a three game boys only session that included a JV game and a junior high boys game.

Dakota Mattson (shown in a previous game) gave the Bearcats (3-4, 1-1) a brief 3-2 lead but Subiaco would lead by as many as nine in the opening quarter and by as many as 11 in the second quarter.

Grouping an Aiden Carter basket, a 3 by Noah Harrel, and a basket by Wesley Fonseca, the Bearcats within 25-21 with 2:57 to play before halftime.

Subiaco pushed it back to 10 before settling for a 33-25 halftime edge.

The Bearcats got five straight points form Mattson, who led the way with 10 points and four assists, got it to 37-32 with 4:11 to go in the third quarter.

But Subiaco scored the next 14 points and eventually stretched the lead to 20.

Macolen Tillery hit a 3 to trim the Trojan lead to 17 but Subiaco scored the next six points and coasted the rest of the way.

Harrel scored nine points and had three assists for the Bearcats and Jace Washburn had seen rebounds and three assists.

Junior High

The Junior High Bearcats improved to 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play with a 48-33 win in which they were dominant most of the night.

Subiaco was within 8-6 when Ayden Rhinehart hit a 3 to start an 10-0 run and the Bearcats led by no less than 10 the rest of the way.

With Drake Brackney scoring eight second quarter points the Bearcats would lead by as many as 18 before halftime.

Brackney led the Bearcats with 14 points and Rhinehart added nine.

Both the Bearcats and Junior High Bearcats, along with the Lady Bearcats will be in action again Tuesday at Cossatot River with the junior boys game starting the night at 5 p.m.
