With convincing wins over Lavaca Tuesday night, the Booneville Junior High Lady Bearcats evened their Conference 3A-4 record and the Junior High Bearcats bounced back from their first league loss.
Lady Bearcats 40 Lavaca 18
Chloe Walker scored 10 points in the third quarter and the Lady Bearcats (5-5, 2-2) turned an 8-point lead to one of 33-15 going to the final quarter.
Having scored the first 4 points of the game and 6 in the opening quarter while the Lady Bearcats were opening a 7-0 lead, Walker, who also had 7 rebounds and 2 steals, finished with 16 points.
Torie Nobles hit a 3 to start the second quarter scoring for the Lady Bearcats and she would finish with 9 points.
Evelyn Rogers scored 7 points, had 10 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.
Bearcats 34 Lavaca 24
The Bearcats (9-3, 5-1) ended the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 14-12 lead and Drake Brackney hit three 3s in the third quarter to push the Bearcats to a lead they would not surrender.
After Brackeny, who finished with 15 points, hit his third 3 of the quarter the Bearcats got a free throw from Ayden Rhinehart and a basket from Hayden Daniel to open a 26-17 lead.
The lead would grow to as much as 33-20 on a Callen Montalvo free throw with 1:26 remaining. Montalvo finished with 9 points, and both he and Brackney had 5 rebounds.
Lavaca would not score from the field after a 3 at the 4:36 mark of the third quarter had made it 20-17, but would go a combined 7-of-8 at the free throw line in the final quarter.
Both teams have a night off before getting back in action against Mansfield on Thursday at Bearcat Gymnasium as the back half of a four game night that includes 7th grade games.
