Tuesday was guys road trip for the basketball program as the junior and senior high boys went to the north side of Logan County to face Subiaco.
The Trojans, who are currently in first place in Conference 3A-1, took the senior high game 45-38 but the Bearcats took the junior high match 42-25.
In the senior high game the Bearcats led briefly early after a conventional 3-point play by Dakota Mattson and stayed close the entire half, actually getting within 23-21 after a technical foul shot by Mattson with 56.3 second to go in the first half.
Mattson would co-lead the Bearcats with 13 points in the game.
The Bearcats actually had a couple of chances to draw even to retake the lead before the intermission but were unable to do so and Subiaco opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a double digit lead for the first time.
The Trojans answered every time the Bearcats cut it back to a single digit the rest of the quarter and were again up 10 at 43-33 with 4:07 to play.
Noah Harrel (shown), who also scored 13 points, converted a conventional 3-point play with 3:45 to go and scored again with 2:47 left to get the Bearcats within 43-38.
The later occurred after Subiaco began to use most or all of the shot clock, a strategy the Trojans continued the rest of the night.
A free throw with 19.2 seconds to go kept it a two score game but after the Bearcats could not score another single gave the Trojans a 45-38 lead to wrap it up.
In the junior high game it was a huge second quarter by Drake Brackney that allowed the Bearcats to take full control.
With Brackney scoring 12 second quarter points the Bearcats extended a 7-6 lead after one quarter to one of 22-9.
Brackney would score 6 more third quarter points and finish with 22.
